It feels good to get things done and even better when we get the right things done. Planning is so vital to a productive day that we literally should plan to plan. Grace modeste- an "unassuming grace." Any discussion of a spiritual nature should reflect this mutual kindness. The following are simply my devotional reflections each morning. I cast them like "bread upon the waters," hoping that all who find them will find something of value to nurture their own inner life.

Too many exceptions to rule will often become the rule.
I give myself too many exceptions. I do this so much so that it may be in my favor to make an exception and do as I originally planned. It is certainly in my favor to define when to allow an exception. I should think it wise to allow them only when doing so is more beneficial than the norm. Make sure your exceptions improve your plans not set them back. ---“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Jesus ~Conversations Within” ts 9/23/2015

“You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take.” Wayne Gretzky
We say a person “goes off half-cocked” when they jump to action without thinking first. But thinking first and not jumping to action is just as unproductive. Once we affirm the goodness of an action, we should “Take the shot”, “spring into action”., “just do it!” Live decisively! Commit yourself to getting it done by doing it, and doing it now. Doing is everything!
Climbers on Everest must acclimate to lower levels of oxygen in order to function properly. If we are to experience life as God intends, we too must acclimate ourselves to be people of action. It is so much easier to know than it is to do. It is not what we know, but what we do that is the final measure of a walk with God. But being a doer in and of itself is only good when we look to God in the doing. Napoleon was a doer. ---“Be doers of the word” James 1 ~Conversations Within” ts 9/20/2015

“The body is a sacred garment.” Martha Graham
How beautiful is a person fully present, embracing each moment body and soul! Such people have trained the body to serve the soul so that every physical sensation becomes a means of spiritual grace. The practical application of such training means that every interaction, no matter how small, can be changed into goodness. This is what it means to walk with Christ. If He participates in an activity with us, it is sure to be made into something sacred, even if it is only eating a tuna sandwich.---“Whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do all for the glory of God.” 1Cor.10

"Why do we close our eyes when we pray, cry, kiss or dream? Because the most beautiful things in life are not seen but felt by the heart". Denzel Washington
It is not only the body that has eyes and ears. Everyone who has known love knows that pleasure and pain too, are so much more than physical sensations. If humans are anything we are spiritual. As such, the world of the soul is a very real world where God, love and life, laughter and every unseen thing is seen, felt, heard and experienced. ---“This is the reason we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2Cor.4

“Let us make man in our image.” Gen.1
We are so much more than the body that houses us. This is why it is sad when we allow the appetites of the body to enslave the soul. Addictions reduce people made in God’s image to mere animals following instinct rather than faith, hope, and love. Our addictions hinder us from becoming like God. “The trouble with always trying to preserve the health of the body......is that it is so difficult to do without destroying the health of the mind.” G.K. Chesterton
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” 1Tim.4
Americans are becoming increasingly health conscience, even though most of us struggle with practicing it. I tend to think too much about something or just talk about it when the solution would be just do it, Get on with it! Eat right, exercise, and get proper rest. This is true as much for the soul as it is the body. We should never emphasize one to the exclusion of the other. "Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." - Jim Rohn
“But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” 2Cor.9
The moment we were born, our physical bodies begin the process which will eventually lead to physical death. In light of this, I should think it wise to invest our energies into matters which will survive death and follow us into eternity. "Begin to see yourself as a soul with a body rather than a body with a soul." - Wayne Dyer
Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? 1Cor.6
According to the Christian worldview, people are both spiritual and physical. God made us body and soul, not one or the other. And, even though the soul is assigned a greater value than the body, the body is still an important part of who we are. The body is the temple that houses both our spirit and the Holy Spirit. Even after death we are promised in resurrection to be re-joined to a glorified body. The implications are clear. Take care of the body; take care of the soul. Conversations Within” ts 9/13/2015

"Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen - that stillness becomes a radiance." Morgan Freeman
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Ps.46
What is it about being still that helps our experience of God? I know that when I still myself, body and soul, I wake to life. Once I do this, I immediately begin to see God in everything. I see Him not only in the beauty of nature but in the old homeless man rummaging through the garbage--especially in the light of appreciation I see in his eyes when I offer him a meal. “Silence is the sleep that nourishes wisdom” Francis Bacon
“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” Ps.62
It does little good to talk to God in prayer if we do not listen in return. In my own personal experience, God normally talks to me in my thoughts. Over the years I have learned to discern His words from my own. This is easier when I still my soul in silence. Many times God only repeats what He has already said in the Bible. Other times I hear some personal word usually pertaining to a particular situation or question I have asked. He will even speak to me in the words of my friends. One thing is clear in each of these instances, I have to be quiet long enough to hear Him speak. Conversations Within” ts 9/11/2015

“God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.” Gen.2
God works quietly, silently moving in the growth of all living things. It should come as no surprise that He is working quietly in human hearts as well. He is wisdom at the moment of our decisions, and strength at the point of every weakness. He is the motivation to live life as it should be lived. “I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD.” Hos.2
Faithfulness is the very essence of marriage. Faithfulness says, “I pledge myself to you and no other.” Love moves us to make this commitment; it is also is what enables us to keep it--not the love of feelings mind you, but the love of loyalty. “Scatter kindness!”
“The kingdom of heaven... is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.” Jesus
Consider the power of a single seed. The magnitude of its potential staggers the mind. Who could envision the trees of a thousand forest from one acorn? There are of course many kinds of seeds. Some are sown in the ground, others in the heart. Scatter the seeds of kindness like a dandelion in the wind. Only God can measure all that a single act of kindness can accomplish in the world. Wouldn't it be nice if we could keep God occupied keeping up with it! Conversations Within” ts 8/26/2015
