”Everyday with you...is sweeter than the day before.” Classics IV

May this year be your best year yet! Why not? Why not live each day with a deliberate purpose to do it better, live it fuller, and embrace life deeper than the day before. Is it not the core of our Christian belief that in Christ our best days are before us.  May your blessed hope become your daily reality.

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.”  Conversations Within” ts 12/23/2016

"In absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily acts of trivia. Author Unknown

It is easy to waste time on trivial matters. We all do it. We all know we can't get those precious moments back when we do. It takes a certain kind of mindfulness and deliberation to quell such tendencies. Define your life’s center, remind yourself every day in the shower what it is, and measure every activity by asking, is what I am doing right now expressing it?

Make the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. Eph.5 Conversations Within” ts 12/23/2016

“You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.” C.S. Lewis

We were born in the likeness of our Creator and what better expression of it than to bring a dream into reality. Of course we should give considerable thought as to whether our dream is worth pursuing. A simple test might be to ask if Christ would happily agree to ask His Father to bless it? Make such dreams the seed of your prayers.

“Hey, in case you forgot, You are a child of God. Pretty cool, huh?” Unknown

When I think of the word family, my thinking is being shaped more by a Spirit that includes not excludes. Father, mother, brother, sister and family are words common to those who name the name of Christ. We are related by His blood. When you think about it, when I do business with a Christian, I do business with kin. Is there not a level of trust under it all? One can trust family.

Christmas is all about family; namely God making His family bigger.
People generally answer that family is one of the most important aspects of life. I feel certain that God shares this sentiment. “Father” is after all, Jesus’ favorite designation for God and He encouraged us to see Him this way. This means of course that all who share this faith are family, and should be treated as such. That person in line at the store in front of you may very well be your brother or sister in the realist sense of the word.
“I'll make a great nation of your descendants, I'll bless you...and In you shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” Gen.12 Conversations Within” ts 12/16/2016

If we have ever questioned God's intentions toward mankind, Christmas is His answer.

Christmas is something we can all take personally. There is nothing generic about it. God is declaring His love to each of us personally. He is declaring His love to me. God so loved the world that He sent Jesus, and that includes you. Never hesitate to say that God put a personal present in your stocking. Open it and rejoice!

"May you never be too grown up to search the skies on Christmas Eve." Unknown

I vividly remember how I lay in bed as a child on Christmas Eve with excitement and watchful expectation for the arrival of Christmas morn. In later years, I find that I must guard my expectations to avoid disappointment. Life in this place can do that. Yet, as followers of Christ  we are encouraged to nurture an expectant hope of His second return as we celebrate His first. Wait for it!!

“Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle.” Unknown

If celebrating Christmas is wearing you out, you may want to focus on the quality of your celebrations rather than the quantity of them. Trying to cram too much in can take the joy out. Keep your celebrations simple and give your energies to enjoying what is in front of you, not just rushing from one seasonal event to another. Peace on earth begins with peace in the family.

Re-introduce yourself to the fascinations of life. Wonder is one of the purest expressions of worship and the delight of God in us.

There are somethings that we should never grow out of, only deeper into. Blowing dandelion seeds, wading in rain puddles, or watching leaves come in for a landing are all childhood expressions that delight the soul. Why stop experiencing these simple wonders? Take your shoes off and run barefoot in the grass. Build a sandcastle. Sit on the floor and color pictures with a child. God’s aroma is found in such things.

“As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.” Mark 9.15 Conversations Within” ts 12/14/2019

“If I take care of my character, my reputation will take care of itself.” D. L. Moody

It doesn’t pay to “get the cart in front of the horse,” and we do just that when we are overly concerned with how we appear to others instead of nurturing our inner life. Some people are cool, some try to look cool. I like what C. S. Lewis said about a truly humble person. “He will not be thinking about humility: he will not be thinking about himself at all.” Don’t work for a good reputation, just work. Don’t advertise your faith just be authentic expressing it.

“You will know them by their fruit.” Jesus Conversations Within” ts 12/9/2019

“It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to lose it.” Benjamin Franklin

We all know it is easier to destroy than to build, and so much so where our reputation is concerned. A good friend told me once, that “it takes three “attaboys” to make up for one “Ah Crap!’” For good or bad, our every action is under the scrutiny of others. If we want an honorable reputation, one that honors God, we must learn to scrutinize our own actions before we turn them loose on the world.

“If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.” Thumper

It can be emotionally difficult to refrain from giving comment, but there are times when it is the best thing to do. When you ask? The answer is pretty much anytime we are unable to say anything nice. If we cannot give a beneficial report, it is probably best that we give no report at all.

“Fame is fleeting. Popularity is temporary. But character creates a legacy and integrity is eternal. Seek the higher things.” Unknown

It is one thing to be famous and another to be famously well thought of by others. Don’t seek fame, seek to be valuable to others simply by being useful to them, not as a performer, but as a servant.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Mr. Rogers

Some people leave you smiling when you hear their name. A good reputation precedes them because they have made such a positive contribution to the lives of others. Aspire to such a life. Set out each day not to consume but to contribute. Our world desperately needs a reason to smile. Be one.

“It is only goodness which gives extras… we have much to hope from the flowers.” Arthur Conan Doyle

When God created the world He made it so much more than functional. He added extras. He could have made the world black and white but He chose instead to paint it with color. He could have made food taste like cardboard but He embellished it with rich flavor. Consider all that is lovely and strengthen your faith in the goodness of God.

“There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” C. S. Lewis

My future is set, and it looks fantastic. The reason is that my Father is managing my portfolio and no one is better at securing our future than He. Even now, in this present moment, His wisdom is there for the asking and when I wake at night He is there beside me. The boundary lines He has drawn around me are in lovely places and every day He sets the table with the delights of joy.

“You hold my lot. The lines have been drawn for me in pleasant places. Indeed I have a beautiful inheritance.” Ps.16   Conversations Within” ts 3/17/2017

”A sight for sore eyes.”

We say that something is “easy on the eyes” when speaking of what we consider lovely. For most of us it brings to mind a gorgeous person;  or beautiful child; a stunning sunset; an adorable puppy or anything pleasing to look at. What pleases you? What brings a smile to your face? What we consider lovely is a reflection of our heart. One important consideration might be if God is pleased by what pleases us.

“The woods are lovely dark and deep, but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep. And miles to go before I sleep.” Robert Frost

Don’t fall into the trap of living for the weekend. Don’t put off living life. The joy of living is not in the future, but now. Find joy in recreation, but be sure to find it also in your responsibilities and the work of your hands. Loveliness surrounds. Don’t miss it.

"There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good.” Ecc.2.24 “Conversations Within” ts 12/1/2019

“Loving you was one of the best decisions of my life.” (Said by many)

How lovely that our Heavenly Father would enable us to experience what is lovely. The joy of family, of holiday meals, of activities together add to the richness of life, and God was kind enough to give them to His children. Love the people in your life. Love what you do. Taste the sweetness of every lovely thing and know that when we do, God finds us to be lovely.
“He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.” Ps.18.19 “Conversations Within” ts 11/31/2019

“When I want to smile, I know exactly what to do. I just close my eyes and think of you.” Unknown

We are encouraged to think about what is “lovely.” The idea behind this word in the Scriptures has to do with people, places and things that stir in us deep feelings of love when we are near them. The beautiful thing about the magic of thought, is that we can be near them every time we think about them.

Whatever is… lovely...think about such things. Phil.4. “Conversations Within” ts 11/30/2019

“Purity of heart is to will one thing.” Sören Kierkegaard

My heart is not pure. I still find myself at times wanting things which are contrary to God’s will. The good news is that I also see that Christ has infected me with a desire to conform completely to His goodness. I see a new me being created in His image, one that can honestly say that I do not wish to continue as I am.

“And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” Rom.7.15 “Conversations Within” ts 11/29/2019

”I give you my whole heart for my whole life.” Unknown

Purity is expressed in simple devotion. It frames our every decision. Our devotion to Christ certainly means that we refuse to participate in a good many harmful activities. But more than refusing to do things, our devotion to Him means that we participate with Him in expressions of faith, love, and service to others. Following Christ is so much more than what we avoid doing.

“But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” 2Cor.11.3   “Conversations Within” ts 11/28/2019

“The pure heart is the greatest temple in the world.” Krishna Reddy

The Spirit’s encouragements, like pure water, can flush out every impurity in our heart. Only truth can cleanse falsehood, and love remove the stains of our lust. Bathe in the water of God’s word. Be baptized and immersed in the fountain of His grace. Know the cleansing power of His love, and His abiding presence will dwell in the worship of a grateful soul made pure.

“But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” 1Tim.1.5 “Conversations Within” ts 11/27/2019

“It is safe to tell the pure in heart that they shall see God, for only the pure in heart want to.” C.S. Lewis

I pray for an undivided heart, for calm waters within. I imagine that a pure heart possesses peace like no other. How wonderful it would be to always know what you want, and know that what you want is always good, right and true. “Create in me a pure heart O God”--to will Your will and only Your will.

“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” Jesus “Conversations Within” ts 11/26/2019

“Simplify and purify. What better way to live your life?” Tony Curl

Am I looking for a life of pure unadulterated joy? I do not need to look any further than what is found in God’s commandment. A word from Him will lead us on the path of health and happiness, and those who keep it taste the joy of every pleasure made by His hand. Who knows more about life than the Source? Who knows more about life’s pleasures than the One who not only created them, but designed us to enjoy them.

“The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Ps.19 “Conversations Within” ts 11/25/2019

Sunday, December 1, 2019

The pure in heart have their senses tuned to goodness. They can sense it anywhere.

It blesses me to be in the presence of people who have an eye for goodness. These precious souls always lean toward finding the good in everything. They hold in check any temptation to speak, or even think the worst about a situation, and leave all judgments and concerns to God. Such people are  not foolishly naive but purposefully positive, and focus on the Creator’s designs rather than the creatures distortions.

“To the pure all things are pure.” Titus 1“Conversations Within” ts 11/24/2019
