I often ask people what they do to nurture their soul. If we are not deliberate about what we choose to dine on, we may wind up having a malnourished inner life. A proper diet is as important as much for our soul as it is for the body. Chances are if we give our soul its proper nourishment, we will be doing the same for the body. One leads to the other. The question isn't so much whether I feed my soul but what feeds my soul. The soul like the body is certain to dine on something.

I have come to appreciate just how spiritual people are. People have soul. We have soul because we are a soul. We put soul into everything we do. This quality sets us apart from all other living things. It is the reason for art, for music, jokes, theater, novels, surfing and scientific study. Jesus taught us to believe that we are uniquely spiritual because we are made in the image of God. People are so much more than the body that houses us. It is the soul that seeks meaning in life, beyond a mere physical existence. We certainly eat, seek protection, and reproduce like animals, but humans live for so much more or at least we should.
