To ask God to “let” something happen, is to ask for more than just that He allows us to do it. We are asking Him to give us a hand up. We are saying, "Without your help, it ain't going to happen." Like a young child we say, “Daddy, Please help me up.” I can’t do it by myself, but with you I can do all things.

The fear of the Lord may start out as a fear of punishment if we do something wrong, but over time and with proper instruction it matures into a loving respect for Him as our Father. The fear of the Lord matured by love is a loving respect and humble acceptance of His directives.

There is nothing wrong with my desire to be happy so long as I find my happiness in all that Father has approved. God is well versed in joy. He only approves the path of superior delights.

I have discovered that I can look for happiness in all the wrong places. I have sought it outside myself by changing my circumstances. I have looked at various pleasures, and realized that each one did not, could not satisfy. I guess when you taste genuine happiness served at the Lord’s diner nothing else will do.

I am encouraged that it is God’s will for me to be joyous and happy. It is His expressed will that every day be an adventure in joy. When I think about it, I am never happy when I am angry, or critical or complaining. It makes perfectly good sense to avoid living this way. I am amazed that it took so long to figure this out.

There are things I know I can do that will make my wife smile. I love to please her. She brings such joy to me. I feel the same way about my Father in Heaven. I make it my daily aim to please them both. I know He smiles at every expression of faith that expresses love. Truly!

I sometimes start eating, and then, with a mouth full of food, remember that I haven’t said “the blessing.” I don’t want the giving of thanks to be an afterthought; I want it to permeate my every thought. I want gratitude to be as natural as breathing.

Very little is as I imagine when it arrives. It is best for me to nurture a grateful heart right now, rather than feed expectations about what comes. Don’t just be where you are, be there gratefully.

Understanding and applying the teaching of the Bible to my life has its challenges.
