“God is opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Pet.5
We may falsely think that if God gives grace to the humble then we must somehow earn it. But grace is clearly offered free to every undeserving person, and we are all undeserving. The reason humility is required is because only the humble heart can receive grace. Martha Snell said, “God cannot pour riches into hands already full.” Grace cannot be received into proud hearts.
