There is a kind of respect that is earned, and another that we demand from ourselves simply because we have chosen to be a respectful person. We do not have to like someone to treat them with respect. We can show respect even to people who have been disrespectful to us. This is one aspect of the kindness and love of Jesus; a very good one at that.
