The old adage “What you own owns you” gives us a wonderful bit of perspective--one that encourages us to give thought to our purchases from the vantage point of their value to us versus the commitment they will require from us. Before I buy a goldfish, I should take into account the time needed to feed it and clean its bowl. What we purchase should enable our enjoyment of life, not enslave us.
