By telling us to address God as Father, Jesus clearly wants to dispel the notion that God is some distant deity. Our relationship with Him is to become something up-close and personal rather than remain coldly impersonal. I do not think it is possible to call God Father and be a Deist. I feel certain that God does not want superstitious worshippers either. By encouraging us to call Him Father, He is offering to adopt us as sons and daughters not mere supplicants.
