It is unrealistic to expect that we will only know moments of happiness in this place. There are surely times when it is proper to be sad, or angry, or to express even disgust at what is happening. But even so, there is an underlying happiness in those who look to God in faith. It comes from knowing and accepting that in the end God will have the final word.
