There is a difference in quiet solitude and in being lonely. The first is desired, even beneficial, the latter not. It is good to be able to be with yourself and enjoy it. But nobody wants to be lonely. We can all profit from learning the skill of quiet solitude. But loneliness leaves us feeling hollow and unappreciated. True friendship is one antidote that will cure it. It is wisely said, “The surest way to have a friend is to be a friend.”
