For everything that godliness works in us there is an opposite that it purges from us. The opposite of love is not only hate, but loving what is wrong--even having the wrong priorities in our love. Godliness inclines us to love the Giver more than the gift. It guards our heart from loving things like money or pleasure and would have us use them instead as tools for loving God and others.
