To love even your enemies is one hallmark of Christian love. Jesus preceded His encouragement to do so with these words, “But I tell you…” In other words, It may seem right to most people to hate those who hate you, “but I tell you” to love them. The expression, “But I tell you,” is another hallmark of what it means to be a follower. It does not matter what the world thinks, the stamp of authenticity for the Christian is to care only for what God commands.
