Beyond self-preservation, there are some very good reasons for us to take care of our body. We should take care of ourselves not only for ourselves but so we can also contribute goodness to others. If a mother does not care for herself how can she care for her children? If we do not care for our bodies how can we offer it to God in useful service? Our body is the first resource entrusted to us. The proper care and proper use of it is a sacred privilege.
