Motives matter. One person makes a purchase because they have a materialistic approach to life, and another does so to support someone trying to make a living. We can be a conscientious  consumer who contributes to the health of society or a greedy consumer who devours the resources of the planet. We should give thought to our purchases if we want to contribute not just consume.
