The defining difference of a mature character is nurtured when people do what they know they should do even when they don’t feel like doing it. Such character is initially sown in something as simple as going for a walk instead of watching TV, or eating an apple instead of a donut. But this kind of discipline reaches its greatest value not in serving self, but in sacrificial service to others--a tired husband comes home and helps his wife instead of watching TV.
