Only God can create a pure heart, but we can surely cooperate with Him. I often find impure thoughts rising in me. What I do when God points them out (and He always does) will show if I am cooperating or not. There are many applications of the Chinese proverb that says that just because I cannot stop a bird from flying over my head does not mean that I cannot keep it from building a nest in my hair.
