Purity of heart is an inside job, but will often require outside reinforcement. How so? Well, refusing to participate in gossip would be one example; or not joining in with others when they criticize someone is another. I am not suggesting that we play Jr. Holy Spirit and preach at people when they do these things. To meet gossip with sincere silence may be all that is needed to halt its progress in them and in us.
