Green pastures and quiet waters is surely a metaphor for peace. When the Lord is our Shepherd He leads us in the paths of peace--peace with Him, with ourselves, and with others. It is said that “still waters run deep”, so also the peace of Christ in the soul. To follow the Shepherd is to possess a lush not lean life. Not lush in temporal trinkets or material possessions but the lushness of a mature inner life, joy within and a wholeness of soul.
