God is said to prune our lives to make us more fruitful. With the pruning shears of various trials, He seeks to remove those things which are keeping us from being productive, and to focus our energies on matters that matter. Pruning seems a violent act, but its intentions are wholly good. And, it is good to remind ourselves when we see God coming with His pruning shears in hand, that a good gardener does not hack aimlessly away at the vines. He is strategic, caring, tender, and pruning only what is necessary.
