We may think it better to pass judgment on ourselves than on others but we are probably no better at it either way. If we want a truthful look at our self, God offers His assistance and not to condemn us but to help us examine where we need His help to change. His light comes to show us the path, not make us feel guilty that we are not on it. Shame is a poor motive for change. His Spirit may let us start there, but there are better motives that He would teach us. One is simply to love ourselves with enough practical enthusiasm to desire what is best.
