Thank God for pleasure; it is one of the joys of life. Eating, sex, play, even satisfying work are all precious gifts. It is unlawful pleasures that are forbidden because they steal joy and weigh us down with guilt. This is the reason there is no joy in lust, we are left pillaged by the very pleasures we would steal. One brother has wisely written, “It is the stealing of the apple that is bad, not the sweetness.
