It is not so much that we hold on to God, as it is that He holds on to us. He does not love us because we trust in Christ, we trust in Christ because He loves us. It is steadfast love that will see us through to glory and we will enter His house through the abundance of it. Saints are saints because His steadfast love has set us apart. Saints persevere in faith because He is persistent in loving us. All that binds our hearts to Him flows first from the abundance of His proactive love.
