"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mt.5.3

The first words of the first known public message of Jesus tell us the first thing we must understand if we desire a relationship with God. In short, we are spiritually homeless, morally impoverished beggars and Jesus is telling us that we are in a position to discover true happiness when we not only know this but we actually beg for mercy and grace. A beggar has no pride. They only know that unless someone takes pity on them they will perish. Here is the first thing we must realize about ourselves if we are to have any relationship with God.
