Some believe the God of the Old Testament to be wrathful and the God of the New, as loving and merciful. Christ is telling us that this is nonsense. The New covenant under Christ does not contradict the Old Covenant; it completes it. God demonstrated both His hatred of sin and His love for the sinner at Calvary.
