People in general make assumptions about God, some of them good, some bad. A bad assumption is bad simply because it is not true and, in the end in it may betray us. I think one reason Jesus came was to take the guesswork out of our relationship with God. He put it plainly when He told us to call on God using His name. We should not understand this as some magical incantation we append to the end of our prayers. To pray in His name is to appeal to all that is true about Him. It would be silly to ask for something we know is inconsistent with that. But, and this is an important contrast, we may confidently assume that every prayer offered up in the true spirit of the Name will move the Father to answer. 10/26/2009 Conversations Within ts
