“A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.” Prov.18 ESV
I suppose one could understand these words to reference bribing your way into the graces of an important person. This is not to say that God’s word approves such behavior; He cautions us of the way things work in this place. But another way of looking at these words is that when the value of a person’s service is deemed a gift, people of note usually take note. This is why we see presidents inviting gifted people to attend White House functions. Everyone likes to be in the company of people whose very presence communicates some grace, some gift. Some people see themselves as God’s gift to humanity; others truly are and are because they continually offer themselves on the altar of service. 6/25/2010 Conversations Within ts
