The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” Ps53.1 ESV
I have a few atheist friends. We talk freely about belief and non-belief. One of them once told me that he felt that if there is a God He would be more merciful to someone who had sincere doubts and did not believe than to one who believed only to avoid being punished. Some people have what could be called a “hedge your bet” belief. In other words, they believe in God just in case there is one, if there isn’t they figure they have nothing to fear. A faith of this sort may be nothing more than mere superstition. Some people I know are practical atheist. They may believe in God but for all practical purposes, they live as though there isn’t one. Their belief in God has no influence in the day-to-day affairs of life and if they did not believe in Him nothing would really change. 4/25/2009 Conversations Within ts
