“Ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation.” Kahlil Gibran

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” Jesus

If there is ever a word to describe the harsh realities of this life it is the word “separation.” We are separated from loved ones at death, separated from our own bodies when death comes to us. We are separated from each other, even from ourselves and all because we are separated from the life of God. Sin separates. But these separations are necessary for many reasons—many good reasons. Who would want to live forever in this fragmented world? It is good that we don't. It is good to feel the heartache of these separations if only because they tell us that the world is broken and needs mending. This is the story of Jesus. If there is ever a word to describe his work in the world it is the word “peace.” The peace of Jesus is the bringing together of all that is broken, the mending of what is torn. His second coming is the richest meaning of the word homecoming when there will be no more separations. Conversations Within ts 4/12/2012 (Jax)
