We are told to remember some things not because they might be forgotten but because they should not be neglected.

I am certain Jesus did not tell His disciples to observe Communion because He was concerned we would forget His sacrifice but because we need the life that is nurtured in us by this continuing interaction with Him. By telling us to remember Him Christ is more like the mother reminding her children to eat their vegetables than a politician wanting to be remembered on election day.
