From a Christian point of view, happiness is one of those things where proper priorities are important. When we choose to put God first and others before ourselves we are promised lasting happiness. We might wonder that if we do this to be happy then aren't we really putting our self first. Well in one sense, certainly we are! We must truly love ourselves before we can properly love God or anyone else. God doesn't mind if we seek happiness, He has wired it into our makeup. Jesus is not telling us not to make our joy a priority, He is telling us how we can best achieve it. He is telling us that it is wrong to seek only our own happiness. No one can be totally selfless, but we can certainly avoid being totally selfish. 12/5/11 Conversations Within ts (Jacksonville , FL)
