“Marriage is an alliance entered into by a man who can't sleep with the window shut, and a woman who can't sleep with the window open.” George Bernard

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Eph.5

Two people wanting to cross the same log over the same river at the same time means that someone must yield the right of way. Learning when and how to yield helps us navigate in the home as much as in the car. The problem is that there are no yield signs posted in the living room or bedroom. Communication in marriage is as much learning to yield our rights as it is in speaking clearly about them. Yielding often means that we put another's needs before our own. This may mean teaching our spouse how they too must learn how to take their turn yielding the right of way. The best marriages learn to find the joy in mutual service and submission.
