"No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve God and money.” Mt.6.24 ESV

When Christ says we cannot serve God and money, the word often translated money is “mammōnas.” Mammon can certainly be money but it can also be a number of things. Actually, the word refers to the confidence or security that we believe something can provide us whether it is money, power, fame or influence. People generally think these things will provide them at least a sense of security. But there are other gods out there. We run into people all the time who believe that learning to live without money or getting back to nature will give them the peace they long to possess. All these things can provide some sense of security, if it is only a temporal one but they make for a shabby god. 1/2/2010 Conversations Within ts
