“Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God.” Lev.19 ESV

We might understand these words to say that when we show respect to the elderly we thereby show respect to God. Jesus tells as much when he said that love shown to others is love directed to him. Not only is this true, but anytime we give honor to those it is due we too get splashed by its refreshment. Showing honor is a lesson in valuing what is truly valuable. What we value demonstrates our own value. This is why so much is said about it in all wisdom literature.
